Review: The Foodtography School Course

My Foodtography School Story

I’m a self-taught food photographer. Well, mostly.

When I first started The Bigley Basics, I shot photos of my recipes in “Auto Mode” on my little Canon EOS Rebel SL1 (which I still use by the way – expensive gear isn’t everything).

With a couple quick tips from my husband (a professional videographer), I was quickly snapping photos with good composition on my own and began developing my own unique look and style.

However, I knew that I wanted more from my photos. I wanted my images to stop people mid-scroll on Instagram, to be eye-catching and professional, yet still relatable.

I wanted photos that inspired others and made people think “I need to make that.”

Enter Foodtography School

It didn’t take long for me to stumble across Foodtography School, as their headliner course is commonly known as one of the best (if not the best) food photography courses.

Sarah (the owner) periodically runs webinars to give people a taste of the course materials, and that little taste was all I needed to get signed up for the course. And boy am I glad I did!

Oh and btw, I am now a Foodtography School affiliate and can get you 15% OFF the course — info at the end of the post!

Since signing up for the beginner Foodtography School course back in February of 2021, my photography skills have improved drastically!

Needless to say, I have been much happier with the way my photos look since “graduating” from Foodtography School, and I’m confident that my improved food photos played a big part in my initial growth on Instagram.

What Is Foodtography School?

Foodtography School is an online food photography course — plain and simple. The course teaches you the basics of photography, techniques specific to food photography, and general shooting and editing tips.

But what makes this course unique is that it also provides some basic social media and marketing training (as well as a handful of very helpful bonus items).

“Foodtography School” is also the name of the online school and website that hosts this course and many others, as well as a plethora of extremely helpful resources. From website templates to media kits to editing presets to courses, Foodtography School has it all. It’s a one stop shop for food bloggers and food influencers.

Sarah Crawford (the owner of Foodtography School) is also the owner and founder of Broma Bakery, a highly popular and successful food blog. She collaborates with major companies like Crate & Barrel, Oreo, and many more.

Is Photography Still Relevant?

While most social platforms HAVE pretty much moved on from photos at this point, high quality images are still hugely important for both your blog content and for eye-catching thumbnails on all those social platforms.

But the great thing about Foodtography School is that Sarah doesn’t just focus on photos. She puts a large emphasis on teaching you how to make engaging short-form video content as well!

Sarah’s emphasis on video and willingness to go with the flow of the ever-changing social trends are what make her not only such a successful Creator and Influencer, but also a great teacher for micro- and established food Bloggers and Influencers alike!
